SLOPPY JOES

Makes 6

Sloppy Joes are a fun dinner for the family served on toasted Nomad Breads Turkish Rolls with pickles and your favourite condiments.

Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • 6 Nomad Breads Turkish Rolls
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 red capsicums, finely chopped
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1kg beef mince
  • 2 teaspoons chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 x 400g cans diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon packed dark brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large fry pan or saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the capsicum, onion and garlic and cook until soft. Add the beef mince and cook until browned, using a wooden spoon to break up any lumps.
  3. Add the chilli powder, cumin, salt, tomato paste, canned tomatoes, water, vinegar, Worcestershire and brown sugar and stir to combine.
  4. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes. Stir your Sloppy Joe mince from time to time to ensure it doesn’t catch on the bottom.
  5. Slice 6 Nomad Breads Turkish Rolls in half and toast each half under a warm grill. Top the bottom halves of each roll with a generous serve of the Sloppy Joe mince along with pickles and your favourite condiments and place the roll lids on top.

Notes

Sloppy Joes are traditionally served with fries and a crunchy coleslaw.
